Have you ever wondered what causes freckles, or those frustrating dark spots on your face? These dark marks are actually a skin condition called hyperpigmentation, which is the darkening of an area of skin caused by an increase in melanin production. Often, hyperpigmentation is due to sun damage and is your skin's initial warning sign that you need to take better care of it. However, if you are vigilant with your skincare routine, always wear SPF and avoid sun exposure when you can, there can be a few other causes for age spots on the face. Hormonal changes, certain medications, picking at the skin, inflammation, or scarring from acne can result in brown spots. Although, sometimes it can simply be hereditary.age spots

What is The Difference Between Freckles and Age Spots?

Freckles are flat and tanned circular spots that may develop on the skin after repeated exposure to sunlight. Age Spots, also known as 'sun spots' or 'brown spots', can vary in size and usually appear on the areas most exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, shoulders, and arms. Age spots are very common in adults aged over 50.

How Do I Treat Pigmentation?

The best way to treat sun damaged skin and help fade age spots on the face is with a brightening facial. A brightening facial can help to lighten the appearance of sunspots as well as generally revitalise dull, tired skin. So follow the 10 steps below to find out how to get rid of brown spots.*

So: How do you get rid of age spots?

Step 1: Pre-Cleanse/Makeup Removal
Eyes - Apply several drops of Gentle Eye Makeup Remover to two damp cotton pads. Place one over each closed eye for a few moments, then softly wipe away eye makeup. Face - Add a small amount of Essential Cleansing Oil to dry hands and apply to dry skin with light, circular movements for 60 seconds. Then, add water to your hands and introduce to the face (this emulsifies the oils and will change the colour from clear to milky white). Rinse well.
Step 2: Cleanse
Cleanse your face with Conditioning Milk Cleanser or Purifying Gel Cleanser to remove eye makeup and superficial debris and rinse well. Add ¼ tsp of Daily Polishing Cleanser to wet hands and massage into face under steam for several minutes. Rinse well.
Step 3: Tone
