We're taking a closer look at some of the skin concerns that can arise around the eye area. Why eyecare is important and the best way to apply your carefully selected eyecare products. eyecare - applying eye cream

Ageing Around The Eyes

The skin around your eyes is one of the most delicate areas of your face, this is because the skin in this area is extremely thin! Here, elastin and collagen break down quicker and your skin is more prone to dehydration and irritation. This is why getting your eyecare right is so important! Fun Fact Time. Did you know that there are roughly 22 muscles working in your face every time you make a facial expression? It is because of this that fine lines, such as crow's feet, appear around the eyes much earlier than they do in any other part of the face. Even those of you with oily skin, who are usually lucky enough to show the signs of ageing later than the rest of us, will notice lines around the eyes before anywhere else. If you have dry skin, or have exposed your skin to a lot of sun, crow's feet can appear as early as in your 20s! There is something you can do to slow this process down. Simply add an eye cream into your skincare routine!

Dark Circles & Puffy Eyes

We often associate dark circles with a lack of sleep and general tiredness. However, your genetics can actually play a significant role. For some of us, no matter how much sleep we get, those dark circles will still appear! Other factors that can cause darkness around the eye area are things such as medication and allergies. Onto puffy eyes, your diet and lifestyle are a major factor when it comes to the appearance of puffiness. The swelling/puffiness is usually caused by fluid retention. Too much salt in your diet, excess alcohol or even allergies can all contribute to the appearance of puffy eyes.

How To Apply Eye Cream

So you've listened to our eyecare advice and picked out an eye cream. Here are some pointers on how to apply your product so you really get the most out of it:
  • The most important application tip to take away is to be gentle! Any excess pressure on the skin around the eyes can speed up the appearance of fine lines. So no harsh rubbing or tugging.
  • When removing eye makeup, find a specifically designed eye makeup remover. These products are designed to remove your makeup without you having to rub your skin to dissolve the makeup.
  • Use a pea-sized amount of your selected eye cream. Apply this to your eye area with your ring finger, gently pat the product into your skin moving from the outside inwards.
  • For eye creams which come in a jar rather than a tube, do not use your fingers! Bacteria from your hands can easily be transferred into skincare jars/tubs. Instead use a small spatula or cotton bud.
  • Try to include eye cream application in both your morning and night routine.
  • At night, apply your eye cream underneath your eyes, all the way up through your lid and into your brow bone. In the morning however, avoid the lid as this might make your eyeshadow slide off!
