In the world of beauty there are many myths about what we should and shouldn't be doing when it comes to our skincare and makeup. We are going to take a look at some of the most common beauty myths and discover if there is any truth behind them.

Beauty Myth 1: Makeup Causes Spots

Beauty myths sleeping in makeup Have you ever been told that wearing makeup will give you spots? Well this simply isn't true. Glo minerals makeup is non-comedogenic so it doesn't block your pores at all. The only way makeup will lead to breakouts is if you are regularly leaving your makeup on overnight. So just remember to cleanse before bed.

Beauty Myth 2: You Can Contour With Blusher

As tempting as it may be to try this out, we suggest this as one of the beauty myths to avoid, unless you want to look like you're ready for 80's fancy dress. Contouring with a blusher can make any makeup look dated and harsh. We suggest the blush placement should be kept subtle, just in the apples of the cheeks for a natural flush. If you want more of a sculpted, contoured look, lightly sweep bronzer through the cheekbones first and follow by blending in a blush shade into the natural contours.

Beauty Myth 3: Makeup & Skincare Products Don't Expire

Most of us are aware that our skincare and makeup items have an expiry date, but we don't take this a seriously as we do the expiry dates on food, for example. There is good reason for our beauty products having expiry dates and this is to prevent contamination and infection. Learn More About Makeup Expiration Dates

Beauty Myth 4: Hairspray Can Be Used To Set Makeup

As beauty myths go, this one is a huge no-no! Hairspray contains all sorts of harsh chemicals which should definitely not be sprayed directly onto the skin. Doing this could lead to breakouts from clogged pores and even cause skin irritation. There are much safer ways to ensure your makeup lasts all day, like having the correct skin preparation or using a setting powder or spray. Tips On How To Set Your Makeup For All Day Wear.

Beauty Myth 5: I Don't Need Sunscreen Because My Skin Doesn't Burn

This is something we hear very commonly, or something along the lines of "I only wear sun protection on holiday". Every day we are exposed to harmful UV rays from the sun, even on the cloudiest of days. These rays cause damage that might not yet be visible to the naked eye. We should be wearing a minimum SPF 15 daily whenever we leave the house. This is becoming more and more easy to do as many skincare and even makeup products now contain a built in SPF. So no excuses!

Beauty Myth 6: Oily Skin Types Don't Need Moisturiser

beauty myths applying oil free moisturiser This has no truth at all! Oily skin, along with every other skin type, needs moisture. In fact, if oily skin doesn't receive enough moisture it will start to produce even more excess oil! If you do suffer with oily skin steer clear of any moisturisers which are too heavy or rich, opt for an oil-free moisturiser instead.

Beauty Myth 7: You'll Outgrow Acne

Unfortunately this isn't correct! As much as we wish this one wasn't a myth, it is. Acne can strike well into your 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. So even if you had clear skin as a teenager, don't think you're safe as an adult. Adult acne can be treated in exactly the same way. with the right skincare routine.
