In the UK, 37% of people aren't happy with their body image. Even those who are happy with their body image may find small things that aren't ideal, such as how their skin looks.

For example, many of us may have dull skin that can use some brightening up. Thankfully, it's pretty easy to improve the condition of your skin.

Have you been thinking, "my skin looks old"? Are you wondering how to get a clearer complexion? Then here are some methods you can use to perk up your dull skin.

Drink More Water

62% of the British population don't drink the recommended 2.0 to 2.5L of water a day. If you're one of these Brits, then this may be the culprit for your dull skin.

Water is essential to many of our body's functions, including circulating the proper amount of blood to your skin. When your skin doesn't get enough blood flow, then it can make you appear sickly.

When you can consistently hydrate yourself, not only can you perk up your skin, but you can also fight against fine lines, scales, deep wrinkles, and sagging skin. For those of you who are looking for anti-ageing solutions, a simple one is to just drink more water!

Eat a Healthier Diet

Are you guilty of eating McDonald's every single day? Then it's no wonder why your skin is looking dull.

When you don't get enough vitamins and minerals in your diet, your body has fewer resources to work with. Again, like with dehydration, this can cause a lack of blood to your skin, which will give you a pale appearance.

Take a good look at what you're eating. Try and stay away from processed and salty foods, and instead, opt for more fruits and veggies. Foods that are rich in antioxidants and good fats will certainly help improve your pallor.

Stop Smoking

Pretty much everyone knows that smoking is bad for your health. But did you know it can also ruin your skin's appearance?

You may have noticed that your fingertips get stained yellow as a result of smoking. Your ashen appearance is also a product of this habit. This is because the carcinogenic ingredients break down the collagen in your skin, which is what's vital for giving you a healthy and wholesome look.

Tone Down the Matte Makeup

Many women struggle with skin that's too oily; this can give off an extra sheen that makes you look dirty and unkempt. To compensate for this, you can use matte makeup, which will neutralise this sheen.

However, there's such thing as too much matte makeup. Consider not only using less of it with each application, but also swapping some products out.

For example, you can replace your foundation with a luminising one instead. If you don't use foundation, then look for a radiance-boosting BB cream. This will allow some life in your skin to shine through.

Moisturise Regularly

In addition to drinking more water, you should also moisturise your skin regularly with hydrators and moisturisers. Apply them daily, taking care to use gentle upward strokes.

As we mentioned before, to fight dullness, you need to improve blood flow to your skin. When you gently brush hydrators and moisturisers onto your skin, this will help bring more blood and oxygen to your skin, which will get rid of your tired skin.

These products work to eliminate cracks that appear in your skin. When your skin looks dull, these cracks are usually to blame. By stimulating blood flow and erasing cracks, you're well on your way to brightened skin.

Use Cleansers and Toners When Washing Your Face

You probably already wash your face once in the morning and again at night before bed.

But are you just using water? Then you may be washing away those natural and beneficial oils your body's producing.

You might get cleaner skin, but it may also inadvertently make your skin look dull. Most likely, you're not getting rid of all the pollution you've accumulated throughout the day.

Make sure you add cleansers and toners to your skincare routine. Cleansers can deep clean without stripping your natural oils. And toners can boost your skin's brightness with its glycolic acid.

Exfoliate Regularly Too

In addition to washing your face with cleansers and toners, you'll want to exfoliate regularly.

Every day, we shed 500 million skin cells. While many make it into our homes as dust, many stay on our skin as well. The buildup of dead skin cells can dull the look of our skin.

An easy fix on how to brighten dull skin due to dead skin cells is to exfoliate regularly with specialised exfoliators. Not only will these products help eliminate dead skin cells, but they'll also stimulate cell regeneration. As a result, your skin will become rejuvenated.

If you're combatting dehydration, you should look for exfoliators that have hyaluronic acid. This is an ingredient that helps your skin retain more moisture. Combine this with everything else on our list, and you'll be well on your way to more radiant skin.
